Every New Year, I gift myself the same thing: three specific peptides for intentional cellular support.

While our New Year’s Eve tradition includes creating vision boards and choosing rest over late nights, the true cornerstone of my annual reset runs much deeper: my cellular health.

For the third year in a row, I begin January with a focused peptide protocol designed to support mitochondrial function, metabolic efficiency, sleep, heart health, and longevity.

This blog is not medical advice. It’s a detailed look at why I choose these three peptides every year, how I think about using them, and when I intentionally layer them into my routine.

A Brief Note on Our New Year’s Tradition

Before diving into peptides, a little context.

On New Year’s Eve, our family tradition is simple and grounding: we create vision boards together, then go to bed early. No midnight chaos. No recovery needed.

I wake up on New Year’s Day clear-headed, rested, and ready to support my body instead of asking it to push through exhaustion.

That clarity is what allows me to start my peptide protocol with intention.

Why I Start Every Year by Supporting Mitochondria (My Annual Mito-Reset)

Mitochondria are known as the powerhouses of our cells, but their role goes far beyond energy.

They influence metabolism, inflammation, recovery, cognitive function, hormone signaling, and even the rate at which we age.

When mitochondrial function is compromised, no supplement stack, motivation strategy, or willpower can fully correct chronic fatigue, poor recovery, or metabolic dysfunction.

That’s why my New Year reset always starts at the cellular level.

For the past three New Year’s, I’ve given myself a very specific health-focused gift: a short, intentional peptide protocol designed to support mitochondrial health, metabolic efficiency, recovery, sleep, and long-term longevity.

This isn’t about chasing trends or quick fixes.

It’s about supporting the systems that quietly run everything.

Read on to see exactly how I do this each year, and why these three peptides have become a non‑negotiable part of my health reset.

Peptide One: SS-31 (Elamipretide)

What SS-31 Supports

SS-31 is known for its ability to support mitochondrial membrane integrity, enhance electron transport efficiency, and reduce cellular oxidative stress.

From a big-picture perspective, this peptide is about repair.

It supports:

  • Mitochondrial efficiency and resilience
  • Cellular energy production
  • Recovery from chronic stress and inflammation
  • Tissue function that relies heavily on energy (muscle, heart, brain)

Why I Use It (My Personal Why)

SS-31 is the first peptide I use every New Year, and the first peptide I ever used when I began exploring mitochondrial health years ago.

After a full year of life stressors and environmental exposures, I want to start January by helping my cells function better, not just pushing them harder.

I don’t see SS-31 as a performance enhancer. I see it as foundational maintenance.

Who SS-31 Is Best For

In my experience and education, SS-31 may be a good fit for people who:

  • Feel chronically fatigued despite doing “all the right things.”
  • Have poor exercise recovery
  • Are navigating high stress or burnout
  • Want to support mitochondrial health as part of a longevity strategy

How I Personally Time It

I always start with SS-31 first to repair my mitochondria.

It kicks off my New Year protocol and is used as a short, intentional course. I don’t run this one year-round, in part because bioregulator peptides like SS-31 are pricey.  Otherwise, I might consider doing it twice per year.

I like to think of it as preparing the terrain before layering in other peptides.

What I Notice Subjectively

When SS-31 is working well for me, the changes are subtle but meaningful:

  • More stable energy throughout the day
  • Less post-workout fatigue
  • A sense that my body feels more resilient rather than drained

It’s not stimulating. It’s grounding.

SS-31 Dosage & Sequencing (My Personal Approach)

In research and clinical discussions, a common SS-31 protocol is:

  • 2–5 mg subcutaneous injection
  • 5 days on / 2 days off
  • For approximately 4 weeks

Personally, I do things a bit differently.

I typically run:

  • 5–10 mg, subcutaneous injection
  • Three days per week
  • For about 3 weeks

Once that course is complete, I stop SS-31 entirely before moving on to the next peptide.

I do not usually stack peptides. I strongly prefer running one peptide at a time so I can clearly monitor:

  • How my body responds
  • Any subtle benefits
  • Any potential side effects

This one-at-a-time approach has helped me understand my body better and use peptides more intentionally.

Is SS-31 Safe?

Based on current research, SS-31 has shown a strong safety profile in animal studies and early human trials. That said, it remains a research peptide and is not FDA-approved.

This is one of the reasons I approach it conservatively: short courses, intentional timing, and plenty of space between protocols.

Contraindications & Cautions

SS-31 is not appropriate for everyone. I personally would avoid or proceed only with qualified medical guidance if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a history of cancer or are currently undergoing cancer treatment (mitochondrial and growth pathways require extra caution)
  • Are taking immunosuppressive medications

If you’re uncomfortable with injections, unfamiliar with proper reconstitution, or tempted to DIY without education, this is not the place to experiment. Work with a peptide-trained practitioner and respect the process.

Peptide Two: MOTS‑C

What MOTS‑C Supports

MOTS‑C is a mitochondrial-derived peptide often associated with metabolic flexibility and improved cellular communication.

It supports:

  • Insulin sensitivity
  • Glucose utilization
  • Metabolic efficiency
  • Exercise performance and recovery

Where SS-31 focuses on repair, MOTS‑C focuses on optimization.

Why I Use It (My Personal Why)

Once I’ve supported mitochondrial function, I move on to MOTS‑C to help the mitochondria that I already have work more efficiently.

This peptide aligns beautifully with my movement goals and how I want to feel in my body… strong, capable, and steady.

Who MOTS‑C Is Best For

MOTS‑C may be a good option for those who:

  • Want to support metabolic health
  • Are focused on strength training or movement consistency
  • Experience energy crashes or blood sugar swings
  • Want improved recovery without stimulant effects

How I Personally Time It

I always run MOTS‑C (which helps mitochondria function better) after SS-31 (which repairs damaged mitochondria).

It’s used in a defined cycle and not continuously.

Timing matters here: this peptide works best when the foundation has already been laid.

What I Notice Subjectively

With MOTS‑C, I notice:

  • More consistent energy during workouts
  • Better endurance without feeling wired
  • Improved recovery between sessions

The worst part about MOTS-C is the sting on injection- ouch!

MOTS-C Dosage & Potential Side Effects

Among clinicians and biohackers who work with peptide therapy, MOTS-C is most often used in short, cyclical protocols rather than long-term, continuous use.

A commonly referenced approach looks like this:

  • Dosage: 5–10 mg per injection
  • Frequency: Daily, five days per week, often on an empty stomach
  • Cycle: 5 days on / 2 days off for approximately 4 weeks
  • Route: Subcutaneous injection (commonly abdomen, glute, or thigh)

Side effects reported with MOTS-C are generally mild and infrequent, but may include:

  • Injection site irritation
  • Mild fatigue or headache
  • Temporary appetite suppression
  • Lower blood sugar- use with caution in diabetics or those with hypoglycemia.

Important considerations:

  • Long-term effects are not fully understood
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Individuals with active cancer or a cancer history should only consider use under physician supervision

Peptide Three: Epitalon

What Epitalon Supports

Biohackers most often use Epitalon for longevity; however, it also supports:

  • Sleep quality and circadian rhythm
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Cellular repair processes (anti-aging!)
  • Longevity by lengthening telomeres
  • The immune system by boosting the thymus gland function

Why I Use It (My Personal Why)

Epitalon is the peptide I associate most strongly with rest and regeneration.

As someone who protects sleep as a non-negotiable pillar of health, I find this peptide a perfect fit for my annual reset.

Longevity isn’t just about living longer; it’s about functioning better during the inevitable aging process.

Who Epitalon Is Best For

Epitalon may be beneficial for individuals who:

  • Are focused on longevity rather than performance hacks
  • Struggle with sleep quality or disrupted circadian rhythm
  • Want to support cardiovascular and cellular health as they age
  • It may have anti-carcinogenic effects- speak to your healthcare provider

How I Personally Time It

I typically use Epitalon after completing SS-31 and MOTS‑C.

It’s done as a short cycle, often annually, and not something I run continuously again, in part due to the expense.

What I Notice Subjectively

With Epitalon, improvements are quiet but powerful:

  • Deeper, more restorative sleep
  • Easier sleep onset
  • A general sense of improved health and recovery

Epitalon is a long-game peptide, which is exactly why it resonates with me. My goal is to live healthfully into my later years (hopefully 120! hehee), so I value it for its support of heart health, sleep quality, and cellular recovery.

Dosage & Route of Administration

Epitalon is most commonly administered via subcutaneous or intramuscular injection.

While there is no one‑size‑fits‑all protocol, a commonly referenced approach includes:

  • Dosage: 10 mg per injection
  • Frequency: Three times per week
  • Cycle length: Approximately 3 weeks

This cycle is often repeated once or twice per year. Beginning the year with Epitalon has become a grounding and rejuvenating tradition for me.

Risks, Side Effects & Important Considerations

While Epitalon shows promising potential, it’s important to approach it with realism and respect.

There is limited long‑term human data. Most research has been conducted in animals or small human groups, meaning long‑term effects in humans are not fully understood.

Possible mild side effects: Some users report minor, temporary effects such as:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Mild irritation at the injection site

Potential unknown risks: As with any emerging therapy, there may be risks that have not yet been identified in large‑scale studies.

Contraindications

Epitalon is not recommended for:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Individuals with active cancer or a significant cancer history, unless under direct physician supervision

Always consult with a qualified healthcare professional before beginning peptide therapy, especially when longevity and cellular pathways are involved.

Storage Notes

Store peptide vials in a cool, dry place prior to reconstitution. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, refrigerate and use within a few weeks, following proper sterile handling practices.

Who This Peptide Protocol Is NOT For

To be clear, this protocol is not for everyone.

This approach may not be appropriate if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have active cancer or are undergoing cancer treatment
  • Are looking for quick fixes or shortcuts

Peptides are tools, not overnight, magical quick fixes.

How I Source Peptides (Important Disclaimer)

This is one of the most common questions I receive, and it’s an important one.

I am extremely selective about peptide sourcing. Purity, testing, and transparency matter.

It goes without saying that I only consider sources that:

  • Provide third‑party testing and certificates of analysis (COAs)
  • Are transparent about manufacturing standards
  • Do not make exaggerated or reckless medical claims

I do not purchase peptides from social media DMs, unverified websites, or trend-driven recommendations.

I also believe peptides should be used with education, respect for dosing, and proper injection technique. This is not an area where shortcuts belong.

What I choose to use is based on my own research, education, and risk tolerance. I encourage anyone interested in peptides to do the same, and to consult a qualified professional when appropriate.

The peptide vendor I order from the most is AMC-Essentials. I am not an affiliate; however, you get 10% off your first order with my link, and I receive a small store credit. Remember to order BAC water from them to reconstitute the peptides. I order syringes for reconstituting the peptides and others (smaller) to inject them from Amazon.

Another tip is to check your math using a peptide calculator. There are free ones, but I love the Peptide Calc Pro (non-affiliate) on Google and iOS. For a one-time, small fee, you have it for life, and it will save your reconstitution rates for each peptide.

Also, because I always get asked… here’s the “skincare” fridge I keep my peptides stored in. I’ve tried several mini-fridges, but always had to send them back due to the small size or leakage.

As an Amazon Associate, I earn a small commission on certain purchases made through my links. Thank you for supporting my small business. Read my privacy policy and disclaimer here.

A Tease: The Other Health Reset I Do Every January

For the past two years, I’ve also included a parasite cleanse in my New Year’s reset.

In many parts of the world, parasite cleansing is considered routine… not extreme. This year, I’m using a structured, weight-based pharmaceutical approach done in intentional cycles rather than continuously.

This topic deserves its own dedicated space, and I’ll be sharing a full blog soon covering:

  • Why parasite cleansing matters
  • The different approaches I’ve personally used
  • Safety considerations
  • What I’ve noticed in my own body

Be on the lookout for a future blog on this topic.

Kelly’s Thoughts and Personal Disclaimer

These three peptides (SS-31, MOTS-C, Epitalon) have become my annual ritual, not because they’re trendy, but because they address the foundations of health.

Every January, I choose to support my body before demanding more from it.

That decision has changed how I feel, how I recover, and how I move through each year.

This is my gift to myself, and I plan to keep giving it year after year.

This blog reflects my personal experience, education, and choices. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Peptides should be researched thoroughly and used responsibly. Dosing, sourcing, and protocols should always be individualized.

What works for me may not be appropriate for you.

I’d love to hear from you! Comment down below and share: What’s your favorite way to start the year with intention—whether it’s a health ritual, morning routine, or something else entirely? Your ideas might inspire someone else in this community to craft their own mindful New Year’s reset.
