If you’re an essential oil lover like me, you already know how fantastic peppermint oil (P.O.) is! The fresh, clean scent makes it a household favorite, but did you know this little bottle of magic oil has many other uses? Some of these may surprise you!
Besides diffusing peppermint oil to make my home smell fresh and clean, I’ve found many other practical and effective ways to use it. And trust me, once you start incorporating peppermint oil into your daily routine, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it!
1. A Drop on the Tongue for Nausea Relief Feeling queasy? A single drop of organic, high-quality peppermint oil (I use and recommend Young Living for its purity) can work wonders. Just make sure you’re using a therapeutic-grade oil safe for ingestion—cheap, synthetic oils can be dangerous and won’t do the trick! Place one drop on your tongue, and within minutes, nausea can subside. It’s a total game-changer for motion sickness or an upset stomach.
2. Soothe Aches and Pains Peppermint oil has incredible cooling properties, making it a natural pain reliever. Whether it’s muscle soreness, joint discomfort, back pain, or even a headache, applying P.O. topically can help ease the pain. Mix a few drops with a carrier oil (like coconut or almond oil) and massage it into the affected area. For headaches, rub a drop onto your temples and the back of your neck for instant relief.
3. Support Digestion Peppermint oil isn’t just great for nausea—it’s also a powerhouse for digestive health. If you’re dealing with bloating, stomach cramps, or constipation, rub a few drops with a carrier oil directly onto your stomach. Gently massage the area, and let the oil work its magic!
4. Keep Pesky Insects Away Say goodbye to ants, spiders, and other unwanted pests! Peppermint oil is a natural insect repellent. Simply apply a few drops to a cotton ball and place it around window sills, door jambs, and other entry points to keep the creepy crawlies at bay. Bonus: your house will smell amazing!

5. Eliminate Garbage Odors No one likes a stinky trash can! To keep foul odors under control, place a cotton ball with a few drops of peppermint oil at the bottom of your garbage can. It’ll neutralize odors and leave a fresh, minty scent in your kitchen.
6. Relax and Recharge with a Peppermint Bath or Foot Soak Whether you need to relax after a long day or energize your body and mind, peppermint oil is your new best friend. Add a few drops to Epsom salts and mix them into a warm bath for a soothing soak. If you’re short on time, a peppermint-infused foot soak can do wonders!
7. Freshen Up Your Vacuum and Floors Want your home to smell fresher while you clean? Add a few drops of P.O. to your vacuum filter or directly into the vacuum bag/canister. As you clean, your entire house will be filled with a refreshing, minty scent!
8. DIY All-Purpose Disinfecting Spray Toss out those chemical-laden cleaners! Instead, mix peppermint oil with rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to disinfect countertops, tables, bathroom surfaces, light switches, and even remote controls. Not only does it keep germs at bay, but it also deters ants and other pests while leaving a crisp, fresh scent behind.

9. Naturally Scented Laundry Ditch the artificial fragrance in dryer sheets and opt for a healthier alternative. Add a few drops of peppermint oil to a washcloth or wool dryer ball and toss it into your dryer. Your clothes will come out smelling naturally clean and fresh—without the synthetic chemicals found in commercial fabric softeners.
10. Promote Hair Growth Looking to give your hair a boost? Peppermint oil stimulates circulation to the scalp, which can encourage hair growth and thickness. Add a few drops to your shampoo or conditioner and massage it in. Your scalp will feel invigorated, and your hair will thank you!
11. Bonus! To keep bugs from invading your veggie garden, add a few drops of peppermint oil to a spray bottle with 8 oz of water, then spray the plants! Lastly, place one tiny drop of peppermint oil inside the toilet paper roll so that your bathroom smells fresh and clean with every spin of the roll.
