Why Hydrogen Water Is Worth the Hype (And Why I’ve Been Drinking It Since 2021)

Hydrogen water might seem like the latest wellness trend, but I’ve actually been drinking it since 2021, back when I worked at Pulsed Ozone, an IV ozone and integrative wellness clinic in Woodstock, Georgia. Back then, it felt like a best-kept secret in the biohacking and detox world. Now, it’s finally getting the mainstream attention it deserves and for good reason.

But truthfully, my journey with hydrogen therapy actually started even earlier.

In late 2020, after dealing with COVID-19 long-hauler symptoms, including scary heart issues and fatigue, I was desperate to find anything that might support my recovery. That’s when I discovered hydrogen tablets, specifically the ones from Dr. Mercola. After just a few days of taking them, I noticed a significant improvement in my energy levels, as if my body had finally received a little boost to start healing.

Hydrogen water is simply pure water infused with molecular hydrogen (H₂), the smallest, lightest, and most bioavailable molecule in the universe. 🍼 Portable Hydrogen Water Bottles

These bottles generate hydrogen on demand using electrolysis, typically within 3–5 minutes. Perfect for gym bags, road trips, or your desk at work.

  • Look for at least 1 to 1.6 ppm, but many new models now go up to 2 ppm or more for better results. Some studies suggest getting 5-8 ppm is most beneficial.
  • Use filtered, RO, or distilled water.
  • Avoid mineral-heavy tap water to protect the device.

What Kind of Water Should You Use?

To preserve your hydrogen bottle’s lifespan and effectiveness, use the right kind of water:

✅ Best Choices:

  • Reverse Osmosis (RO)
  • Distilled Water
  • Filtered water with low mineral content

❌ Avoid:

  • Hard tap water, especially if high in calcium or chlorine
  • Well water, unless filtered
  • Anything carbonated or flavored

These can corrode the electrodes and reduce hydrogen output.

Are There Any Risks or Contraindications?

    I’m curious about your recovery from “long covid”. How many shots did you have? How long was your actual covid illness? What symptoms did you have and how long did it take for the hydrogen water to help with your recovery?

      Hi Kelly, Thank you for reaching out! I did not have any shots—the vaccines weren’t available yet when I got covid. On day 10 of my illness, I suddenly developed an extremely elevated resting heart rate and ended up being admitted to the hospital several times over the next month. I was put on several medications, but the side effects felt almost as bad as the sinus tachycardia itself.

      Hydrogen water was one of the modalities I used to support my healing, but IV ozone was the most helpful. After just 3 treatments I was able to stop the meds, and after 5 I felt almost back to myself. That said, it still took about a year for my adrenals and cortisol levels to settle back into balance after all the trauma. I had severe fatigue during that time… in part from meds, stress and lack of sleep. The hydrogen water would give me energy to get through. : ) I hope that helps!
